Chapter 99 Thunder
Chapter 99 Thunder
Around 4 p.m., Wei Hongsi received a reply from Gu Shiming regarding the project proposal.
Gu Shiming affirmed his idea but did not offer any specific suggestions. He simply told him to prepare and report to General Manager Dai the following morning.
This pace of progress was somewhat beyond Wei Hongsi's expectations. However, considering that Gu Shiming was actually in charge of the company's business operations due to General Manager Xia's long-term absence, it seemed reasonable.
The situation was similar within the CDU project team. Wei Hongsi could communicate directly with Gu Shiming, whereas with the conventional workflow, there were several levels between them, making things much less efficient.
Some things are not that the company doesn't value them, but the reason they haven't been effectively promoted is simply because the people in charge above are not yet aware of the situation.
With some time left before the end of the workday, Wei Hongsi began preparing a PowerPoint presentation for his report.
Since I'm reporting to the CEO, I naturally need to be well-prepared. This PowerPoint presentation might not be used, but I need to be able to pull it out when necessary.
Although PowerPoint is often criticized by working professionals, its powerful visual expression capabilities are hard to replace.
Wei Hongsi didn't waste time on things unrelated to the content, such as formatting, fonts, and color schemes. He had ready-made templates and experience in these areas, which, while not extremely aesthetically pleasing, wouldn't challenge most people's tastes and were perfectly adequate for him.
He wasn't concerned with page count. To him, this was merely supplementary material; what mattered most was that it effectively and clearly presented the key points of the proposal.
By the time he finished get off work, his PowerPoint presentation was almost done. He spent a few more minutes checking and revising it, and after confirming that there were no problems, he left the office to go to lunch.
As soon as they stepped outside, they ran into Yuan Zhenhui again, and the two went downstairs to the restaurant together.
Wei Hongsi suspected that this wasn't a coincidence, but rather that the other party was intentionally waiting for him. During the meal, Yuan Zhenhui had repeatedly seemed about to speak but then stopped himself.
Wei Hongsi could somewhat guess what the other party was thinking, and after thinking for a moment, he said, "Engineer Yuan, although we've worked together for a while, I don't know much about your expertise yet. Could you introduce it to me?"
Yuan Zhenhui's face lit up when Wei Hongsi brought it up. But when asked to talk about his own strengths, he hesitated, feeling a little ashamed. Just a day later, however, he found himself feeling some psychological pressure when facing Wei Hongsi.
Seeing this, Wei Hongsi didn't take it to heart: "No rush, send me a message when you've thought it through."
"Okay!" Yuan Zhenhui nodded vigorously.
Wei Hongsi smiled and asked, "When is the next sharing session?"
"It should be this Saturday afternoon."
"Can I go?"
"You?" Yuan Zhenhui looked surprised.
"I haven't been working for very long and I don't have much of a social circle," Wei Hongsi explained. "I think the way you share and exchange ideas is very interesting and a great way to relax."
"Oh." Yuan Zhenhui nodded. "Then I'll ask the host if we can invite you. Um, shall I add your Zhixun account?"
"OK."
Wei Hongsi took out his phone and added Yuan Zhenhui as a friend.
Before he could put his phone down, it rang again. Seeing it was Zhang Shengyong's number, he answered, half-jokingly saying, "Hey, Brother Yong, you finally have some free time?"
"Hehe!" Zhang Shengyong laughed emotionlessly. "Chief Yu asked me to ask you if you're free tonight. He'd like to invite you over."
"Yes," Wei Hongsi said, suddenly perking up.
Zhang Shengyong said, "That's good. Where are you? I'll come pick you up."
"I'm almost finished eating at the company cafeteria."
"Then eat slowly. I'll be downstairs at your office in twenty minutes."
Wei Hongsi hung up the phone and pondered while eating.
It seems the police have indeed taken action, but it's unclear what problems they encountered, which is why they remembered him again. Having Zhang Shengyong come to pick him up—that's the treatment an expert consultant receives.
The task force has experts, and Director Liang is there to coordinate resources. If even they can't solve the problem, it must be very difficult. Even if they replaced him with Teacher Wei, it might not work.
On the bright side, at least I can learn about the latest developments in the case. And even the wisest can make mistakes; perhaps I, as an outsider, can spot their blind spots.
Yuan Zhenhui slowed down his pace, waiting for Wei Hongsi to finish eating. Although they didn't talk much, he felt that doing so was useful.
If he hadn't happened to run into Wei Hongsi yesterday and the two had eaten together, he would never have known that an opportunity had once been right beside him.
After the two left the restaurant, Yuan Zhenhui went back upstairs to work overtime, while Wei Hongsi wandered to the roadside to wait for someone.
Seven or eight minutes later, a black car stopped next to Wei Hongsi. The window rolled down, revealing Zhang Shengyong in the driver's seat.
Wei Hongsi opened the door and got into the passenger seat, fastening his seatbelt as he asked, "Any progress?"
"Which one are you asking about?" Zhang Shengyong asked, driving the car into traffic.
"Well, let's talk about the car accident case first."
"I haven't continued the investigation yet, I can't attend to it for now. Your guess makes a lot of sense, Han Tao may have been stimulated by some kind of voice, but it's too difficult to investigate."
"What about the case handled by the special task force?"
"You'll find out soon enough. I'm not authorized to discuss the case with you, and my understanding is very limited, so I can't explain it to you clearly."
"Alright."
Zhang Shengyong drove to the Criminal Investigation Department, then took Wei Hongsi to the office of the special task force, and then left.
There were five people in the room, all of whom were familiar faces.
In addition to Director Liang, Director Shi, and Yu Zhen, who hold leadership positions, two experts, Zheng Han and Yu Xiufeng, were also present.
After a brief greeting, they immediately got down to business, with Director Shi explaining the situation to Wei Hongsi.
He did not describe the police deployment and arrest operation, only saying that the three Professors Finch had been apprehended and that, through dream interpretation, they had been confirmed to be members of the Light Guide Society.
Numerous clues have been uncovered so far. The three Professors Finch have worked in this country for anywhere from five to over ten years. Although they have mostly remained inactive, their involvement in criminal activities extends beyond the one related to Mu Jie.
The task force has identified more than twenty accomplices or related individuals. However, it is essentially certain that these are peripheral members recruited by Finch and have no direct connection to the Light Guide Society. Some of them were even completely unaware that their actions constituted a crime.
These people play a similar role to Li Yunxiang and Peng Jun. Arresting them will require extreme caution. However, since the cause of Li Yunxiang and Peng Jun's deaths is already known, adopting appropriate measures can prevent similar situations from occurring.
