Chapter 64 Death
Chapter 64 Death
"That wild Taoist is just a newly transformed being, while you've been transformed for hundreds of years. Is it really considered bravado for you to go up against him?"
Princess Wansheng scoffed at Ao Qing, then turned and continued walking towards the weapon rack. "Besides, I'm not asking you to fight him one-on-one. You hold him back while I attack. With the two of us working together, what are we afraid of? He's only in the early stages of the Transformation Realm. I was careless last time. This time, with you and me as siblings, I refuse to believe we can't take him down!"
Ao Qing stood behind her, pursing his lips in a helpless manner, it seemed he couldn't stop her.
However, it's always good to be on the safe side and take some precautions.
"Then wait for me, I'll go get my weapons too."
After saying that, he turned and left the side hall. As he passed the guard post at the entrance, he quietly said something to one of the fish demon guards, who nodded and went to carry out his orders.
He then took a halberd and returned to the side hall, where he sighed leisurely.
Her tone was full of helplessness: "Sister, you can go. But you have to promise me that when we get there, you'll let me scout ahead first. Don't just rush in headfirst. If that wild path has set up an array or restriction on the ridge, we'll be like dumplings being surrounded."
Princess Wansheng raised an eyebrow: "Then be careful. If anything goes wrong, just hide behind me. I'll protect you."
Ao Qing weighed the halberd in his hand, shook his head with a wry smile.
The two left the Azure Wave Pool and traveled swiftly through the air.
Princess Wansheng, who had been holding back her anger for so long, finally had a breakthrough, and the clouds beneath her feet urged her forward quickly and urgently.
Ao Qing followed behind her, a faint worry lingering on his face, as if the journey was somewhat rushed.
But thinking about it, I had already sent the guards to inform my father, so nothing serious should happen. We were both in the Transformation stage, and even if we were two against one, we couldn't win. We could at least run away, right?
He glanced back in the direction of the Azure Wave Pool. The fish demon should already be on its way to the Ape Demon Cave. He only hoped that his father would arrive as soon as possible after receiving the news.
As dusk settled in, Pansiling came into view.
Princess Wansheng and Ao Qing descended from the clouds and landed on the edge of a mountain.
Looking around, she saw the entire mountain range shrouded in a thin mist, with occasional glimmers of light flashing through the pines and cypresses, seemingly the lights lit by the little demons in the mountains.
Ao Qing whispered, "Sister, be careful."
Princess Wansheng nodded, gripped the longsword in her hand, and silently made her way up the ridge.
The two concealed their presence and, using the pine and cypress trees for cover, stealthily made their way to the foot of the mountain where Ao Qing had previously been.
Faint flames emanated from the dense forest on the mountain, accompanied by a few muffled thuds. It was unclear what was happening on the ridge.
Inside the cave not far from here.
The mandrill was furious at the pangolin spirit kneeling before it, trembling with fear.
He grabbed the only bamboo cup on the stone platform with his right claw and smashed it against the stone wall, shattering bamboo shards all over the ground: "Nothing at all?! I told you to find spirit fruits, and you said there weren't any! I told you to find medicinal herbs, and you said there weren't any either! What use are you bunch of useless trash to me?"
The pangolin spirit shrank its neck and dared not utter a sound.
The few remaining medicinal herbs on the ridge had long been pulled up by Teng San Niang and Tie Gu, and even the few wild fruits that had just sprouted were secretly picked by some of the patrolling demons before they fled the area. There was nowhere left for these things now...
The mandrill clutched his chest and coughed violently for a while. He leaned against the stone wall, panting heavily. There were still scorch marks on his body that had not fully healed, and he had little magical power left, most of which was still sealed.
This was actually Lu Changgeng's deliberate act. He had wanted to kill him after eating mortal children, but after thinking about it, he decided to let him guard this place as an outpost so that he could play a role before he died. He didn't expect the mountain demon to help him defend against enemies, as it was not even worth being a dish for others when facing those who had returned to the Void and merged with the Dao.
Just as the mandrill was about to speak again, two muffled thuds of heavy objects falling to the ground suddenly came from outside the cave.
The two little demons guarding the cave entrance collapsed to the ground before they could even scream.
The mandrill suddenly raised its head, its blood-red eyes sweeping across the area. A figure in water-red had already stepped into the cave, followed by a burly young man with horns on his head.
Princess Wansheng's gaze swept across the cave and locked onto the mountain demon. She twirled her longsword, the tip hovering just three inches from the demon's nose: "You must be the Great Sage Who Guards the Mountain? Where is that wild path?"
The mandrill's pupils contracted; the newcomer was actually in the mid-stage of the Transformation Realm.
Hearing the other party inquire about this matter again, my heart skipped a beat, and I had a vague feeling that something was wrong.
He was currently injured and powerless, so he could only force a smile and say, "May I ask where the fairy comes from? And who is this so-called 'wild Taoist' you speak of?"
Princess Wansheng didn't have time to explain in detail to him, and went straight to describing Lu Changgeng's appearance.
"You mean Immortal Master Yangquan? He's gone out, but I don't know exactly where he went."
"have no idea?"
Princess Wansheng narrowed her phoenix eyes and pushed the tip of her sword forward another half inch.
The mandrill instinctively tilted its head back. Although the sword tip was some distance away, it still felt chilling to the bone. It tried to keep its neck as far away from the tip of the sword as possible.
It wasn't that he didn't want to tell him; he genuinely didn't know where Lu Changgeng had gone. Lu Changgeng left without even saying goodbye, leaving him here to guard the place. Even Tiegu and Teng Sanniang had left beforehand.
He wasn't left with a single capable fighter; only those useless little demons who even slacked off on patrols stayed with him.
He suppressed the throbbing pain from his old chest wound and tried his best to sound sincere: "Fairy, I truly don't know where the Immortal Master has gone. He didn't say anything when he left, only instructing me to guard the mountain gate here. If the princess has any words to convey, I will remember them."
"Then you're useless." Princess Wansheng said coldly, her longsword trembling as its tip shone with a burst of emerald light.
The mountain demon was prepared. Although its injuries had not yet healed, its instinct as a transformed demon was still intact. It clamped its claws together and forcefully gripped the sword.
"Hmph! You think you can withstand it with your bare hands?" Princess Wansheng sneered.
A sudden burst of emerald-green light erupted from the sword tip, blasting its claws apart and sending up a shower of charred scale fragments.
The mountain demon groaned and fell backward. Before it could regain its balance, it was suddenly struck on the side by a phantom of Ao Qing's dragon claw.
This strike was both ruthless and precise, hitting the weakest piece of scale armor on his waist and ribs after it had been burned through by the true fire of the sun.
The mandrill flew through the air and crashed into the stone wall. A metallic taste rose in its throat, and it tried to swallow it but couldn't stop itself, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
He struggled to get up, but Princess Wansheng's sword was already at his chest. The tip of the sword pierced through the gaps in the charred scales, penetrating his chest from front to back, pinning him to the stone wall.
The point where the sword pierced through was precisely the tender flesh left after Lu Changgeng burned through the scales with the True Fire of the Sun that day. Even the cold, emerald light on the sword flowed into the meridians along that old wound.
The mandrill looked down at the bleeding wound on its chest, then slowly looked up at Princess Wansheng. It grinned, as if to say something, but only a hissing sound escaped its throat.
Before his consciousness faded, he suddenly understood...
It turns out that the immortal left him here to wait for someone else to kill him.
No wonder Teng San Niang looked back at him when she left; her gaze was hard to decipher—it was either pity or something else entirely…
Deep within his divine sense, the God-Locking Seal glowed faintly at the last moment, then vanished silently...
