Chapter 36 Heroic Sacrifice
Chapter 36 Heroic Sacrifice
"Make way, make way, let the professionals handle this."
The man with the iron pot stew excitedly pushed through the crowd.
Not only was he unafraid, he even scooped up a handful of the poisonous water from the pool and brought it to his nose to smell it. After all, he was born in Pearl Harbor and had never seen the green mist of Rainbow Village.
Now that there's a chance to catch up on the missed plot points, I certainly won't let this opportunity pass me by.
He squinted in the firelight and shook the poison in his hand.
As a professional wilderness survival content creator, although he doesn't understand molecular biology, he has been exposed to extreme environments for many years and has an animal-like intuition for identifying toxic water.
"Can you smell it? It smells like a mixture of fermenting dead rats and rust."
The goose spoke with certainty: "In the laws of wilderness survival, the appearance of this unnatural glow and strange smell in a puddle usually means that some kind of parasitic fungus has broken out in the water. This stuff can corrode the internal organs of animals into rotten mud in the wild. The NPC bled profusely after drinking it, which is very much in line with the laws of nature."
Upon hearing about such a horrific way of dying, the surrounding players all gasped in shock.
These are newly hired workers; if a few die, they'll all be scared away.
Suddenly, the goose changed the subject and pulled a dagger from its lower back.
"However, that refers to carbon-based natives. Don't forget, according to the game's hardcore setting, our bodies originated from Rainbow Village."
He sneered, "You guys can even smoke that green fog on the outskirts of your hometown, this damn fungus is nothing."
Without hesitation, the goose used the blade to make a cut on its palm.
Bright red blood dripped down and flowed into the water in front of him.
"Practice makes perfect, let's try it and see."
The moment his blood fell into the poisonous water, it was like molten iron being dripped into an ice hole.
Accompanied by a faint melting sound, the green, flocculent things in the water that were originally baring their fangs and claws curled up wildly as if electrocuted the moment they came into contact with the blood.
In just a few seconds, the originally murky and highly toxic liquid completely stopped churning. It lost its color, making the water clear and transparent again.
Old John was so frightened that he scrambled backward until he knocked over two barrels before stopping.
He watched as the goose casually wiped its venom-covered fingers on its clothes, and his entire worldview crumbled. In Pearl Harbor, even the most ruthless gangsters would be terrified at the sight of such things. But these guys were not only unafraid, they were even gathered together discussing whether this stuff could be used to level up some kind of skill.
So terrifying.
"This fungus has too low activity; it dies as soon as it comes into contact with our blood. I don't think it can be used to make poison." The goose smacked its lips, looking regretful. "I was thinking of whether I could poison the knife. Looks like I was just getting my hopes up for nothing."
"Incredible! It's a true case of one thing being the nemesis of another, white T-shirts dry out green fog!" The agent's eyes widened as he exclaimed, "Our blood is like high-concentration bleach to this thing!"
"Holy crap, that's amazing! Our blood has a 100% antibacterial effect!"
"There's hope! These NPCs are saved!" Xiaoyu quickly pulled up the laborer who was coughing up blood.
But here comes the problem.
"It can kill germs, but... this is a reservoir that can hold thousands of tons of water."
The little snail looked at the huge pool, its lips twitching. "Even if we all lined up and cut our wrists to bleed out, we'd all die seven or eight times over by the time we're all drained of blood. It's too inefficient."
"Exactly, time is money, my friend! I still want to grind some monsters to level up in the middle of the night." Roasted Whole Lamb looked disgusted.
Just when all the players were at a loss, not knowing what to do with the large water tank.
Suddenly, the roasted whole lamb touched his chin, and a wonderful idea popped into his head.
"Cutting your wrists is too slow. To achieve 100% solution mixing, we need a mixer and a very even way of distributing the blood."
The roasted whole lamb muttered to itself as it reached down to touch its lower back.
There were three tubes of homemade explosives that he had made by hand with the goose that afternoon. These explosives were originally intended to be used to blast the rocks tomorrow.
"What are you doing?" The agent instinctively took a step back as he watched his movements.
"Don't worry, I won't do anything to you."
"Since a drop of blood can purify a small amount of water, then all I need to do is tear my body, which weighs over a hundred pounds, into billions of pieces of flesh rich in purification particles in an instant."
The roasted whole lamb's eyes gleamed, as if the path to salvation lay within: "Explosion is art; let's solve this massive pollution problem in one fell swoop!"
The surrounding players were all dumbfounded.
"Holy crap, buddy, you're a genius! But reviving costs so many credits!"
At this moment, Lynn, sitting in the distance, took in the whole scene.
His facial muscles twitched violently twice.
He swore that the thought processes of these players were so bizarre that even he, a transmigrator, felt his scalp tingle.
"Ding!"
[Limited-Time Task: Purify the Water Source]
[Mission Description: Great sacrifices must be remembered! Purify the water source and save the laborers in the most tragic way.]
[Mission Rewards: The system will fully reimburse the credits required for this resurrection! An additional 500 credits will be awarded, along with the exclusive title: Flesh Purifier]
He saw the notification that popped up on the emblem.
The whole roasted lamb's eyes gleamed with greed, and its mouth was stretched almost to its ears.
"Rare achievement... Full reimbursement..."
The whole roasted lamb, its lips trembling, pressed the three tubes of explosives against its chest without hesitation.
Under the horrified gazes of old John and hundreds of native laborers, the outsider warrior took out a tinderbox and lit the fuse.
As he watched the fuse hiss and sparks fly, old John's cloudy eyes were filled with shock.
In this cold-blooded world where human life is worthless, how could anyone be willing to sacrifice themselves to purify water sources for these lowly laborers?
"Sir...you...you can't!" Old John knelt down with a thud, and the other laborers coughing up blood around him also knelt down in unison.
They didn't understand what a rare achievement was; all they saw was a tall figure, who selflessly walked towards death to save everyone.
The whole roasted lamb glanced down at the NPCs kneeling on the ground and was overjoyed: Holy crap, this wave of hidden favorability has definitely exploded. Maybe the laborer leading the group will trigger a new quest later!
The fuse hissed and crackled with the firelight, illuminating the face of the roasted whole lamb.
He climbed onto a nearby high platform, facing the huge reservoir churning with pollutants, and assumed a very unorthodox and somewhat awkward triple axe starting position.
"Limited-edition achievement! Activate!"
In his final moments before leaping into the poisonous pool, the roasted whole lamb cried out in mid-air, leaving behind his last words:
"Hey hey hey hey bros! I forgot to take off my gear, remember to help me get it later!!!"
