Chapter 14: Visiting Old Jiang's Office for "Tea"
Chapter 14: Visiting Old Jiang's Office for "Tea"
"Whoosh—" Ye Fan plopped down in his seat, throwing his backpack directly into the desk drawer.
Pei Yi'an, her fingers twirling the pages of her book, turned to look at him: "Ye Zi, what's going on today? If you were thirty seconds later, you'd be going to Old Jiang's office for 'tea'!"
"Don't even mention it..." Ye Fan yawned as he pulled out his Chinese textbook. "I stayed up late last night and almost couldn't get up this morning."
Pei Yi'an wrinkled her nose slightly, her voice gentle yet carrying an undeniable seriousness: "You need to adjust your sleep schedule recently. Look, you're getting dark circles under your eyes, and the college entrance exam is just around the corner."
She tapped her fingertips lightly twice on the table, much like a teacher's habitual gesture when checking homework.
Ye Fan had just finished answering when the class representative for morning reading stood on the podium and turned on the projector: "Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng"—"Yuzhang, the old prefecture; Hongdu, the new capital..."
The entire classroom was instantly engulfed in a wave of noise. He winked at Pei Yi'an, grabbed his textbook, and joined the mechanical engineering department's reading aloud, while secretly planning to buy some raw materials during the lunch break.
Morning reading session is over.
Ye Fan had just stretched and stood up when Zhao Mingzhe came over and nudged his arm: "Come on, let's go take a shower."
Just as the two were about to step out of the classroom, they heard familiar footsteps coming from the corridor.
Jiang Wenyuan strolled over slowly with his hands behind his back, his thermos reflecting the sunlight: "Ye Fan and Zhao Mingzhe, come to my office."
A few whispers suddenly broke out in the classroom.
"???"
"???"
Ye Fan and Zhao Mingzhe looked at each other, both frozen in place.
"Damn it!"
"Old Ye, what's going on?" Zhao Mingzhe lowered his voice, his Adam's apple bobbing involuntarily, and said, "Could it be because we were on time today...?"
Ye Fan rolled his eyes and said, "What are you guessing for? We'll find out when we get there. Come on, let me see what's going on."
Tang Yanning, who was in the front row, chuckled and gave them a "good luck" gesture.
Pei Yi'an turned her head and glanced at Ye Fan, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back, her fingertips unconsciously rubbing the edge of the textbook.
The two followed Jiang Wenyuan toward his office, one after the other—who knows what Old Jiang was up to?
I arrived at the office.
Old Jiang took out two pastries and two bottles of milk from the drawer, smiled, and handed them to the two men, saying, "Here, eat while you listen to me!"
He patted Ye Fan on the shoulder and said, "Ye Fan, your progress this time has shocked the entire senior class! Your scores in this mock exam have improved significantly, especially in mathematics and science, where you have almost reached the top level. I hope you can maintain this momentum in the college entrance exam."
Ye Fan smiled slightly, his eyes sparkling with confidence, and nodded.
After taking a sip of goji berry tea from his thermos, he continued, "Your Chinese teacher specifically instructed you to work harder on your essays. You should spend some time figuring out how to improve your writing skills to get high scores. If you don't understand something, you can always ask Teacher Qin for help."
He turned his gaze to Zhao Mingzhe: "Mingzhe, you absolutely have the ability to get into a university. You need to study hard! If you encounter any problems you don't understand, ask your best buddy. Stay focused and study diligently during this period!"
Zhao Mingzhe said confidently, "I will study hard and live up to your expectations."
Ye Fan sipped his milk and said with a smile, "Old Jiang, I'll study hard for my essay. Maybe I'll get the top score in our school exam."
Upon hearing Ye Fan's words, Old Jiang immediately perked up, his eyes lighting up. He patted his chest and said generously, "Good lad! If you really manage to become the top scholar in the imperial examination, you can choose whatever you want to eat, even a Manchu Han Imperial Feast will be prepared for you!"
Ye Fan replied slyly, "Old Jiang, you'd better be prepared to bleed!" He then casually grabbed a banana from Old Jiang's table.
"Alright, you guys go back to class!"
Old Jiang waved his hand, indicating that they could go back.
Step out of the office.
Zhao Mingzhe breathed a sigh of relief and whispered, "That scared me to death! I thought I was going to get scolded, but it turns out we're just supposed to study hard!"
"Alright, enough talk, hurry up and go to the toilet." Ye Fan walked quickly towards the toilet.
As soon as the two entered the classroom, Tang Yanning asked with concern, "Ye Zi, what's wrong? Did Lao Jiang not lecture you?"
Ye Fan replied with a smile, "It's nothing, they just want us to study hard, nothing else."
Is that really the case?
Tang Yanning frowned in confusion.
Pei Yi'an noticed Ye Fan's return, stopped flipping through the book, and asked softly, "Are you alright? What did Lao Jiang say?"
"It's nothing." Ye Fan plopped down in a chair and shrugged. "It's just the same old story, telling us to focus on our studies."
-----------------
The morning classes are over.
As Ye Fan packed his schoolbag, he turned to Pei Yi'an and asked, "Are you two having lunch with us?"
Pei Yi'an, who was tidying up his notes, looked up when he heard this: "Great! We were just wondering what to have for lunch!"
Ye Fan suggested, "Let's go to 'Da Long Stir-Fry' outside the school. The food is good and the prices are reasonable."
"OK!"
The four of them then walked out of the school gate together and through the bustling food street.
The aroma of food wafted from both sides of the street, and the cries of vendors rose and fell.
Soon, they saw a restaurant called "Da Long Stir-Fry".
"Boss, four of you," Ye Fan greeted them familiarly.
The waiter seated them by the window.
Ye Fan took the menu and handed it to the two women in a gentlemanly manner: "You order, we can both eat."
Pei Yi'an and Tang Yanning huddled together to discuss and finally ordered stir-fried beef with bean sprouts, stir-fried pork belly with white jade mushrooms, stir-fried bok choy, braised eggplant, and radish and pork rib soup.
The dishes were served quickly, and soon all the dishes were served.
Ye Fan and Zhao Mingzhe ate without a care for appearances, devouring their food in a whirlwind, while Pei Yi'an and Tang Yanning ate slowly and gracefully.
Twenty minutes later.
Ye Fan wiped his mouth with satisfaction and said, "You guys go back to the classroom first! It's hot, but the classroom has air conditioning. Zhao Mingzhe and I have some things to do."
"Huh?" Zhao Mingzhe looked up blankly, with rice grains still stuck to the corner of his mouth.
"Okay, let's go back to the classroom then," the two girls replied in unison.
After the two girls had walked away, Zhao Mingzhe asked in confusion, "Old Ye, am I alright?"
Ye Fan didn't answer his question directly, but smiled mysteriously: "Let's go, I'll take you to do something meaningful."
"Something meaningful?" Zhao Mingzhe immediately became interested. "Something meaningful? What exactly is it?"
Ye Fan, toothpick dangling from his mouth, stepped out of the store: "You'll see when you come with me!"
"Damn it, a DJ."
"That dog's dick is keeping us in suspense again!"
Zhao Mingzhe followed, grumbling and cursing, but his pace quickened involuntarily.
"Old Ye! Shall we go to an internet cafe? I'm telling you, I've been watching a lot of Yasuo tutorials lately. I'm going to solo you with Yasuo this time, and I'll definitely beat you to a pulp... Wait! Oh my god, DJ, you're not planning to take me there... Old Ye, this is going to be a teahouse for us...!"
He nervously looked around and whispered, "Do you have enough money? I still have 56 yuan in my pocket..."
Ye Fan paused, almost choking on his own saliva.
You knew you were going to be taken in for questioning, and you still gave me money? Your brain is just unbelievable.
Besides, what good is fifty-odd yuan anyway?
Zhao Mingzhe had already started rummaging through his pockets, coins jingling as they spilled out of the hole: "Is this enough? Or should I borrow some from my cousin?"
Ye Fan took a deep breath, barely suppressing the urge to shove the guy into the roadside ditch.
