Chapter 4 On the Tsar
Chapter 4 On the Tsar
Mu Chun walked into the coach's office. Daeny was sitting in front of the computer, with a replay of the training match playing on the screen. There was a notebook on the table, and a translator was on standby.
"sit."
Seeing Mu Chun sit down, Daeny pulled up screenshots of Mu Chun's recent 20 matches and rank on the Korean server.
A quick glance revealed a good stat line; he was basically a carry every game, mainly playing Azir and Cassiopeia. If you didn't see his specific lane assignment, you'd really think he was a mid laner. Daeny noted this down in his notebook.
Position: ADC
Rank: Korean server 1000 points
Style: Possesses excellent development strategy and understanding of minion waves, stable last-hitting skills, and also has good team fight strategy and the courage to make bold plays.
"Besides the Tsar and the Cassiopeia, are there any other heroes?" Daeny looked up.
"I still play Ryze, Jayce, and Twisted Fate," Mu Chun replied calmly.
Then he paused, "Actually, I'm pretty good at playing Graves and Kindred too."
Mu Chun didn't tell the whole story. The strange system only gives you one hero proficiency level if you win a major match, except for proper AD heroes.
The mastery levels for champions like Azir and Cassiopeia are essentially a bonus from the beginner's guide.
As for the other heroes, most of them are ones he usually plays in his spare time when doing free quests.
He wasn't sure if he could pull it out and make a difference in the game.
Daeny nodded and silently wrote it down in her notebook.
With a rich hero pool and versatile roles, he can lead the game or play a late-game carry.
Mu Chun glanced at the notebook, fiddling with his fingers, "Actually, Coach, I don't know any proper AD champions at all."
Daeny paused, picked up her water glass, took a sip, and asked, "What did you say?"
"Coach, I don't know how to play a proper ADC," Mu Chun replied sincerely.
"Pfft, damn it, you ADC can't play AD!" Daeny almost spat out the water in his mouth, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Looking at Mu Chun's hero pool and playstyle, he simply thought that Mu Chun had gotten tired of playing proper AD and came up with his own playstyle. But it turns out that Mu Chun doesn't know how to play a proper AD!
Daeny coughed twice. "What exactly is it that you don't know how to do it?"
"Yeah, uh... He's fine playing other things, but when he plays AD, he's like a complete newbie who doesn't even know where he's going."
Daeny took a deep breath as she wrote in her notebook.
I don't know any AD champions at all.
He then kept typing on the keyboard, reviewing all the details of Mu Chun's training match.
Mu Chun looked awkwardly at the notebook, filled with dense Korean text. He couldn't understand it, but he recognized the letters AD.
You can probably guess what it says.
He was also upset; the bizarre system required him to win a championship as an AD carry to unlock a proper AD hero.
"Mu Chun, have you ever thought about switching to mid lane? With your champion pool, you won't be too bad if you develop it further." Before Daeny could speak, the translator next to him asked Mu Chun first.
He spent many years with Korean players and coaches in the LPL, so he naturally absorbed their knowledge and skills, coupled with the current situation of a talent gap in the LPL.
"Sorry, I still want to play ADC." Mu Chun refused without even thinking.
"pity."
While the translator was still lamenting, Daeny asked in broken Chinese, "What are your thoughts on playing Azir as an ADC?"
He was very curious as to why an ADC would neglect practicing the main champions and instead practice the mid-lane champion pool. Even TheShy wouldn't dare to do that.
Mu Chun cleared his throat. "My understanding is that although the Tsar's normal attack range is only 525 yards, the Sand Soldiers greatly extend that range."
"Even players with low skill levels can match Caitlyn's attack range in the bottom lane. The higher the skill level, the longer the attack range they can achieve."
Then, Mu Chun confidently said, "But my proficiency is very high, and I can perfectly exert the maximum attack range."
"At the same time, AD heroes generally have low initial magic resistance. After returning to base for the first time, they can buy AP items, which will allow them to firmly control the lane in terms of both pushing speed and poke ability."
Daeny nodded repeatedly and wrote the word "confidence" in his notebook.
"So, what are the weaknesses of the Tsar in the bot lane?" Daeny asked again.
Mu Chun took a sip of water. "The Tsar's damage output relies too heavily on the Sand Soldiers, so he's relatively vulnerable to two types of AD carries."
"First, there are heroes like Kalista and Vayne, whose movement skills have short or no cooldowns. They can frequently use their movement skills to escape the Sand Soldiers' attack range and then get close to deal damage."
"Another type is heroes with high burst damage, such as Lucian, Samira, and Draven. Their burst damage can kill Azir in just a few hits from the Sand Soldiers."
Daeny nodded and wrote it down again.
His profound understanding of the game supports his imaginative hero choices, but they are not random ideas; rather, they are based on sound reasoning.
He likes players with wildly imaginative ideas, and he is also a coach with wildly imaginative thinking who enjoys scientific research.
After thinking for a moment, Daeny spoke up, "One last question: what are your thoughts on how to play Azir in team fights?"
His question hit the nail on the head.
He has been working in the LPL for a year and a half, and the Azirs he has seen are all the kind of players who, regardless of the team composition, want to push forward and push all five opponents in team fights. This is basically the playstyle of everyone.
The only one who played well was yagao, who has already retired.
Mu Chun didn't expect Daeny to ask that, but it seems that Daeny is interested in him. If Daeny doesn't want him, his next stop will be the European and American regions to play games.
Mu Chun coughed lightly, "I think it depends on the situation, the team composition, and your own development."
"If there is an initiator in the team composition, you can just stay in the back and deal damage regardless of your development level. Use your ultimate to protect yourself. If there is no initiator and your own development is poor, I think you need at least one well-developed character in the team composition who can deal damage and finish off enemies. Then you can try to initiate a fight."
He paused, then said confidently, "However, I have confidence in your draft picks, Coach. If I really need to initiate a team fight, I will seize the best opportunity."
Daeny nodded in satisfaction to show his approval, but many LPL players and even ordinary gamers knew this. He valued more whether Mu Chun could put his knowledge into practice.
After watching the replay repeatedly, Mu Chun demonstrated the unity of knowledge and action, even though it was only one game.
He didn't mind Mu Chun using unconventional heroes as AD carries; they could just fill in the gaps in the lineup elsewhere. Plus, they had an extra Azir, which TheShy could play in the top lane, not to mention Rookie.
With this flexibility across all three lanes, his draft picks will be easier to execute. However, the issue of his inability to play proper AD carries still needs to be addressed, otherwise the draft picks will become increasingly difficult as the game progresses.
"What you said is very good. You can do what you said in the game. Now, Mu Chun, I want you to make me a promise."
"Next year, the LPL will be divided into three stages, and it will also be a global ban/pick system. You should know that we also have the Demacia Cup to play soon."
Mu Chun nodded.
"I need your promise that you will have mastered at least one proper AD carry champion before the start of the second stage next year."
"At the same time, your current champion pool and mid lane overlap significantly, so I need you to bring out more champions to deal with the draft."
Mu Chun nodded. The second stage of the competition will start at the end of March next year. Nearly five months to train only one proper AD is too low a requirement for professional players.
But for Mu Chun, this requires winning at least one championship.
The second requirement is much simpler. He has almost full mastery of all heroes. The only difficulty is that he can't pick randomly. He can't just pick Mundo or Malphite and go to the bottom lane to get spinning like a top.
"Coach, I can do it!" Mu Chun stood up abruptly.
Daeny got up and left the office. "Okay, I'll talk to management."
Mu Chun stood there, stunned for a moment.
I've already passed?
I think I kicked GALA out!
