Chapter 59 Matters of the Zhang Family
Chapter 59 Matters of the Zhang Family
Jiang Yanming declined Ling Heng's invitation to return to the Four Nations Alliance together, and instead took a private car back to his hotel to rest, booking his return flight to Crescent City en route.
January 6, 348 Gregorian calendar.
Early in the morning, Jiang Yanming took a plane back to Xinyue City. He had asked Li Ang to pick him up before boarding the plane.
Four o'clock in the afternoon.
Jiang Yanming dragged his suitcase out of the airport and scanned the many taxis along the driveway with his excellent eyesight, but did not spot the one driven by Li Ang.
"Ah Ming, over here!" Li Ang's voice called out.
Jiang Yanming looked in the direction of the sound and saw Li Ang, dressed in light-colored casual clothes of an unidentifiable brand, leaning against the door of a black SUV taller than himself, waving at him.
"You changed cars?" Jiang Yanming carried his luggage over and stuffed the suitcase into the trunk of the black SUV.
"Haha, I've wanted to buy this car for a long time, and I just picked it up two days ago," Li Ang laughed from the driver's seat. "This car is just so imposing; its style is unmatched by any of those small sports cars."
"It looks impressive and imposing, but maintaining this car is not easy," Jiang Yanming said with a smile.
"My grandfather set up a foundation for my mother, and now I've inherited that foundation. Not to mention maintaining one car, even maintaining ten or a hundred more wouldn't be a problem," Li Ang said with a confident smile as he drove along the driveway.
Then, he added with some distress, "What's bothering me now is that my grandfather wants me to go to university, but if my grades aren't good, he'll restrict my spending."
"It's just a spending restriction." Jiang Yanming smiled easily. "You were poor before too, so if you don't like it, just give up that money."
"Going to school for further studies wasn't something that was agreed upon from the beginning. They only told me about this clause in the contract after I bought a house and a car," Li Ang said helplessly. "And they even made me minor in etiquette, finance, and management."
"So what do you plan to do?" Jiang Yanming asked.
"Actually, going to school and pursuing further education isn't that difficult. At worst, I just need to put in more effort and get the grades I need." Li Ang felt he could work hard, and if all else failed, he could just postpone his graduation a few more times.
Li Ang is definitely not going to return the house and car he already has. His father said he wouldn't bail him out, so he has no choice but to go down this path to the bitter end.
"Is it easy to go from frugality to extravagance, but difficult to go from extravagance to frugality?" Jiang Yanming asked with a light laugh.
"You could say that," Li Ang agreed. "My new house is in the bay area. Apart from the fact that the security there is a bit worse than in the southern part of the island, everything else is fine."
"Since your new home is in the Bay Area, why did you agree to pick me up?" Jiang Yanming asked.
"Of course it's because you're my friend!" Li Ang answered without hesitation, "And taking you back to Moon Island will also allow us to visit Dad."
Jiang Yanming smiled upon hearing this: "Then I'll trouble you. You'll have to drive back to the bay area tonight."
"It's alright. I still have clothes I haven't brought to the new house. It's fine even if I live in the South Island neighborhood for a long time," Li Ang said nonchalantly.
Jiang Yanming smiled but didn't reply. Although he was smiling, he was thinking about the conversation they had just had.
Whether it's sending Li Ang to university for further studies or having him minor in etiquette, finance, or management, it's not about raising another spoiled brat; rather, it's like having a backup plan being carefully cultivated.
Jiang Yanming learned from his memories as an electronic hacker that cultivating an heir for a large family is not easy. Usually, they will focus on cultivating one person as the heir, and then select several backup candidates to prevent any accidents from happening to the heir.
If the backup candidate behaves well, it's fine; the heir usually won't launch a major purge. But if the backup candidate is dishonest, the heir can easily kill them.
If Uncle Li was able to obtain new military-grade electronic pulse rockets from military technology, then Li Ang's maternal grandfather's identity must be extraordinary. He might be a major shareholder of military technology, and someone who wields real power.
If Li Ang were to participate in the succession struggle of such a large family, even though Uncle Li's identity is equally extraordinary, he would still be at risk of being killed!
Never underestimate the allure of power!
Jiang Yanming thought to himself, "Uncle Li is a high-level martial artist from the Divine Martial Kingdom, so with Uncle Li protecting him, Li Ang should be fine."
……
The black SUV drove along and arrived at the South Island district as dusk fell.
"I've brought A-Ming back." Li Ang parked his car in the driveway outside "Jiang's General Store" and stuck his head out of the car window, shouting towards the store's entrance.
"Okay." Li Kun came out of the 'general store' somewhat impatiently. "Couldn't you be a little more discreet? I could hear the noise of your car from far away."
"How about I drive a taxi back and let you work the night shift again, Dad?" Li Ang rolled his eyes and got out of the car to help Jiang Yanming with his luggage.
"So what if you drove a taxi for a few years?" Li Kun clicked his tongue lightly. "Why are you still nagging about it even after more than ten days?"
Li Ang didn't respond, clearly not wanting to talk to his father.
Seeing this, Li Kun clicked his tongue again and said to Jiang Yanming, "Aming, your father is inside. He was just saying..."
"Hmm? You..." Li Kun looked Jiang Yanming up and down, a hint of surprise on his face.
"What's wrong?" Jiang Yanming looked at himself and asked with some surprise.
"It's nothing." Li Kun glanced at Jiang Yanming, then at his son, and shook his head slightly. "Let's go in."
"No! Dad, what do you mean by this?" Li Ang asked anxiously.
Li Kun shook his head and sat in the passenger seat: "This is boring, I'll go back."
"It's just a few steps, Dad, why are you still riding in my car? Didn't you complain that my car is too noisy...?" Li Ang muttered, but his body was very sincere as he got into the driver's seat and started driving.
……
"Father, I'm back."
Jiang Yanming carried his suitcase and entered the "general store" amidst the noise of the SUV engine.
Inside the general store, which displays a wide variety of guns and ammunition, several regular customers can be seen either sitting at the counter or standing against the wall.
When the people in the shop saw Jiang Yanming enter, they looked him over carefully, and their faces all showed surprise.
"Congratulations, Brother Jiang. I won't bother you any longer." Uncle Chen stood up, cupped his hands, and took his leave.
"Congratulations, Brother Jiang. You and your son have a chat." Uncle Zhou also bowed and took his leave.
"Congratulations……"
Soon, several acquaintances in the store said their goodbyes, leaving only the father and son.
"You went out and trained your physique to this level, and you saw that kid Ling Heng again?" Jiang Yi asked. "Did he give you some kind of secret medicine?"
"I have met Ling Heng, but he didn't give me any secret medicine." Jiang Yanming shook his head. "My physical enhancement is due to another opportunity."
"Opportunity... What opportunity could there be outside of the Divine Martial Kingdom?" Jiang Yi clearly didn't believe it, but didn't press for details.
"Your physique is so strong that even a martial artist who has just entered the Qi Condensation stage cannot compare," Jiang Yi said calmly. "Now you are qualified to go to the Divine Martial Kingdom to learn the profound mysteries. Do you have any questions about this?"
"Yes!" Jiang Yanming immediately replied, "What is the relationship between Father and Ling Heng?"
