Chapter 48 Encounter
Chapter 48 Encounter
Seeing the powerful zombie approaching the edge of the town step by step, Xu Mo's eyes turned cold. The town absolutely could not be allowed to enter. It was filled with buildings and ruins; once it hid, finding and eliminating it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack, and would leave him constantly under potential threat.
Instead of waiting passively, we should take the initiative and snipe it from a distance while it is still on the open snowfield.
With this in mind, Xu Mo didn't hesitate for a moment and immediately went downstairs to retrieve the AWM and two spare magazines. One magazine was filled with standard .338 Lapua Magnum sniper rounds, while the other was packed with armor-piercing rounds with black markings on the bullets. He needed to choose the appropriate ammunition based on the situation.
Back on the rooftop platform, Xu Mo quickly set up his bipod and pressed his right eye close to the high-powered scope. The cold metallic touch made him even more focused. In the distance, the giant shadow trudging through the snow appeared clearly in the center of the crosshairs.
Adjusting his breathing, Xu Mo pressed the trigger. Instead of aiming for the head immediately, he steadily positioned his gun on the zombie's muscular, bluish-gray right scapula.
He wanted to test just how strong this power-type zombie's defense really was! Could ordinary sniper bullets inflict effective damage on it?
"Whoosh—Bang!"
The silenced gun emitted a muffled roar, the powerful recoil absorbed steadily by Xu Mo's solid shoulder blades. Almost instantly after the shot, through the binoculars, a cloud of dark red blood and bits of flesh exploded from the right shoulder of the power-type zombie.
"roar--!"
The zombie let out a low, furious roar. Its massive body staggered from the force of the bullet, tilting to the right, but it didn't fall. It braced itself against the snow with its left arm, regaining its balance. A horrific, bowl-sized gash was exposed on its shattered right shoulder, from which thick, dark red blood gushed and dripped onto the snow. Its狰狞 (zhengning - ferocious/hideous) head snapped towards the approximate direction from which the bullet had come, its empty eye sockets seemingly burning with invisible rage.
"It works!" Xu Mo was overjoyed.
Ordinary sniper bullets can penetrate its defenses and cause serious injuries, but the strong physique and tenacious vitality of the power-type zombie mean that such non-fatal wounds cannot immediately deprive it of its ability to move.
"Tough as expected." Xu Mo thought to himself, but his hands didn't stop moving. He quickly pulled back the bolt and ejected the spent cartridge. With a crisp metallic scraping sound, the next bullet was already chambered.
This time, the crosshairs steadily and accurately locked onto the ferocious head that was constantly rotating and searching for its target.
"Whoosh—Bang!"
A second shot rang out.
This time, there was no blood mist, only explosions.
The .338 caliber sniper bullet penetrated the zombie's skull at extremely high speed without any obstruction, and then released devastating energy in the confined space inside.
Like a watermelon smashed by a sledgehammer, the head of the power-type zombie exploded violently in Xu Mo's scope. Skull fragments, grayish-white brain tissue, and dark red blood splattered in all directions, staining the surrounding white snow a filthy mess.
The massive, headless body, as if all its support had been removed, swayed stiffly for a moment, then crashed heavily into the snow like a mountain collapsing and a jade pillar falling, never to move again.
"It's done." Xu Mo slowly exhaled a breath of stale air, unloaded the gun, and checked the weapon with steady movements. He hadn't used armor-piercing rounds; ordinary sniper rounds, if they hit vital points accurately, were enough to take down this strength-type zombie.
But Xu Mo did not relax. After confirming the target's death, he immediately put on his full set of equipment—a stab-proof vest and a machete. After hesitating for a moment, he still took the AK-47 assault rifle and quickly went downstairs to the location where the zombie had died.
He wanted to observe the specific form of this power-type zombie up close. More importantly, Xu Mo wanted to personally test whether his superhuman strength, combined with a sharp machete, could relatively easily break through or even dismember the powerful body of this mutant. This was crucial for him to assess the gap between his own close combat ability and that of the mutant zombie.
The snow was deep, which affected Xu Mo's speed even with his physical abilities. He remained vigilant, holding a gun in one hand and a knife in the other, quickly approaching the area.
When they were about thirty meters away from the headless, enormous corpse, Xu Mo suddenly stopped.
A chilling sensation, like being stared at by a venomous snake, suddenly shot up my spine. At the same time, a sharp whooshing sound came from behind me, accompanied by a piercing, malevolent roar.
"besides?!"
Alarm bells rang in Xu Mo's mind. Without time to turn around, almost on his fighting instincts, he suddenly raised the AK-47 horizontally to protect the back of his head and neck!
"clang!!!"
A piercing metallic clang rang out.
A tremendous and sharp force slammed into the AK-47. Xu Mo felt a jolt in his arm, and the sturdy standard rifle was as if it had been swept by a heavy-duty cutting machine, breaking in two. The front half of the barrel and handguard spun out and flew deep into the snow in the distance.
Xu Mo was also pulled forward by this tremendous force, staggering a step, his heart filled with horror! What immense strength! What incredible speed!
He whirled around and finally saw the attacker clearly—a relatively small zombie with pale skin, a bald head devoid of hair, and abnormally twisted joints in its limbs. From the tip of one of its hands emerged a razor-sharp, gleaming bone claw! It was this bone claw that had just severed his rifle in one blow.
"Agile zombies! Strength and agility types are appearing together?" Xu Mo was shocked.
But Xu Mo had no time to think. After failing to land a hit, the bald, agile zombie barely paused. Using the recoil from the rifle, it twisted its body strangely in mid-air. Its eyes, flashing with bloodthirsty red light, locked onto Xu Mo. It transformed into a blurry white shadow once more, rushing towards his face with a sharp gust of wind at an astonishing speed.
"So fast!"
Xu Mo's pupils contracted. Without hesitation, he instantly tossed aside the wrecked rifle in his hand, his right hand flashing past his back—"Clang!"
The machete was drawn from its sheath.
At the same time, the surging blood and qi within Xu Mo's body began to circulate at an unprecedented speed and intensity!
"Buzz—"
A deep, resonant sound, as if emanating from within his chest, rang out. Xu Mo's skin visibly turned a dark, dull yellow, and his muscle fibers instantly tensed and bulged, filling every inch of his body with a powerful force far exceeding his usual strength.
The Bullhide Realm unleashed its full power.
The world seemed to slow down slightly in Xu Mo's perception, and the trajectory of the once ghostly, agile zombies' attacks became clearly discernible.
"roll!"
Xu Mo exhaled, his voice like muffled thunder. He exerted force from his waist, twisting his body and hips, channeling all his strength into his right arm. The machete in his hand drew a chilling arc, neither dodging nor avoiding, and fiercely slashed down at the oncoming white figure.
"Pfft!"
The sound of the blade cutting into flesh rang out, but there was no hard resistance as expected. Instead, there was a sticky feeling as if it were cutting into tough leather, but this feeling was fleeting.
A streak of dark red blood shot out! The agile zombie let out a half-piercing shriek as Xu Mo's full-force strike severed its entire right arm at the shoulder blade. The severed arm, complete with claws, fell to the snow, twitching a few times.
However, the zombie felt no pain. The severed arm seemed to only enrage it, or perhaps it didn't affect its aggressive desire at all. Its remaining left claw, still whistling through the air, reached for Xu Mo's neck, its open mouth revealing sharp teeth, attempting to tear him apart.
"Indeed troublesome." Xu Mo thought with a chill, but he already had a clear understanding of the agile zombie's combat power, defense, and fighting style.
They are fast and have fierce attacks, but their defense is relatively weak. They are fearless of pain and fight in a crazy and direct manner.
"That's enough!"
Xu Mo shifted his feet slightly, dodging the agile zombie's claw that reached for his neck. At the same time, he flipped his wrist, changing the machete from a slashing motion to a horizontal slice. His dark yellow arm muscles bulged again, and the blade, with a sharp whistling sound as it tore through the air, swept precisely across the agile zombie's bald neck at an even faster speed than before.
"Whoosh!"
A flash of light, and a bald head, with a ferocious expression and a mouth still trying to roar, shot into the sky.
The agile zombie, its headless body propelled by its forward momentum, staggered a few steps before collapsing heavily into the snow, twitching a few times before falling still.
The head that had rolled to the ground still had its lips moving, its teeth chattering, as if trying to make a sound. Its empty eye sockets stared fixedly in Xu Mo's direction, filled with endless savagery. But this bizarre sight lasted only a second or two before the last trace of life on the head vanished, turning it into a truly lifeless object.
Xu Mo maintained his sword-wielding stance, slightly panting, not from exhaustion, but from the mental tension brought on by the life-or-death struggle that had just taken place. He slowly withdrew his power, and the dark yellow tinge on his skin gradually faded.
Looking at the two mutated zombie corpses on the ground, Xu Mo let out a long sigh of relief, and his tense nerves finally relaxed.
